Drip, drip, splash, drip drop drop, splash...
Light rain had been falling in the city on and off for the past week or so, but today’s skies had seemed deceptively promising. Promising enough to trick more than one person... or so Heather liked to think. She refused to believe she was the only one who had been tricked into fore-going the umbrella upon seeing the cloudless sky. Either way, it didn’t change much. After being caught in the sudden downpour on the way back from James’ place, the only nearest source of shelter had been a bus shelter. And, just because life enjoyed kicking those who were down, none of the buses ran near her home. Perfect. Thus, here Heather found herself, sitting on the tiny, uncomfortable bench, listening to the falling rain and watching the droplets cascade from the edge to the the shelter’s arched roof.
The teenager shifted a little uncomfortable, leaning into the corner and pursing her lips at the constant downpour that didn’t seem to show any signs of letting up. God, she was bored. Rain, rain, rain... didn’t it do anything more amusing? Heather chewed her lip, racking her brains for something to do. Hmm... her Mom always used to sing weird songs when it rained. There was one she didn’t fully remember, only the one line, really. Drip drip, drop, go the April Showers... and that was it. Heather was sure there was another line she at least vaguely recalled, something to do with, the sky is falling... She took at least ten minutes to amuse herself, trying to remember the rest of the song to no avail, giving up when the novelty was lost and the rain continued to pour.
Rain, rain, go away, come again another day... Well, everyone knew that one, so there was little fun to be found there other than bemoaning how well it applied to her current situation. A bus pulled up, doors opening and a gust of warm air blowing out. Hmm... she hadn’t realised she’d been feeling cold until now, and instinctively pulled her jacket tighter around her lithe frame. When she made no other movement, the doors shut again, bus pulling away from the curb and managing to drive right through the one puddle that had any chance of splashing her. Heather gave a tiny groan. Life hated her, she was sure of it.

Katy had been clever this time, she managed to find a big unbrella so that no matter how windy and wet it was she would stay dry. Her umbrella was one of the multi-colored ones that every five year old though was amazingly cool. But Katy was sixteen, sadly it was the only umbrella she could find at home. She was wearing a pair of navy blue skinny jeans; a brown leather jacket and brown suede ugg boots. For once she had actually dressed sensibly and would be warm and dry rather than cold and wet.
Locking the door to her house she pushed the keys into her pocket and swunng her green gola bag over her shoulder. Her outfit clashed with the umbrella but as her brother used to say It's not cool to be cold. It always made Katy laugh when she was younger. She walked cautiously along the pavement, dodging puddles so as not even to tempt fate. Her curly hair blew a little in the wind and floated around her face. Hearing the bus drawing up in front off her she ran to catch it. But it was just her luck it didn't wait for her.
Shit. She muttered under her breath. That ment Katy would have to wait another half an hour to go to the mall. It was a mission living where she lived. Kat turned round and looked at the girl who had just been splashed by the bus. She walked over to her and smiled hoding the umbrella up so she could come under it avoiding getting even more wet. ''Where's the sun when you need it?'' She said.
